Love God with my whole self? That’s pretty generous. And then love my neighbor—care about the person nearby? Extremely generous!
The law expert wanted to prove he was justified — right with God. So Jesus told a story.
Jews believed Samaritans were far from God (more on that later). But Jesus made a Samaritan the hero of the story. Have you ever considered that sometimes people far from God do the right thing? Does it help to know that what you do (not who you are) gets you right with God?
