Jesus – Day 40

Jewish leaders want to judge Jesus, so they corner him in public. Will Jesus teach them to relate?

Many Jews hated the Romans. They had swept in and taken over Judah without asking. Soldiers enforced Roman law without mercy. The Roman emperor, Caesar, demanded to be worshipped as a god.

So when the Jewish leaders asked “Should we pay taxes to Caesar?” they meant should we finance this ungodly, tyrannical emperor? Should we care about our enemy? They wanted Jesus to judge Caesar.

What do you think about Jesus’ answer?

Both groups asking Jesus questions were judging him. See how Jesus responds. Is he judging them, or inviting them to understand?
